Hello, Everyone: My friend has windowsME and when you press the up or down Volume control on keyboard then you can see by the lines that scroll to the right How Loud you are making the PC! Well anyway it was working ok, then all of a sudden it would not show up when pressing the volume control (up and down) Arrows on his Keyboard! Now the only thing I did was go to the run window and type in OSK, which is the on screen keyboard and make a shortcut to his desktop. Then I fooled around with the OSK for awhile to see how it worked out and everything seemed ok but now the Volume control scrooler Lines are missing. I can still make the Volume go up and down with not problem, its just not showing it on the screen anymore when i adjust the sound! My question is How do i get the scrolling volume control lines Back? Do you think it was something i did when i was using the On Screen Keyboard? Any help at all would be appreciated, TOM

What make of computer and monitor is this? The on-screen display is more a function of the manufacturer software rather than WindowsME. For example, my HP has a setting for Keyboard Manager in Start/Programs/HP Tools/Keyboard Manger. There is also an entry for OSD (On-screen Display) under MSCONFIG and when you ctrl+alt+delete, you will see OSD running.

Also the monitor itself may have a certain combination of buttons for OSD. Need a bit more info on this one. :)

He has a HP windowsME with the MX50 monitor and no keyboard manager in hp tools! But the on screen keyboard is incase your keyboard dies out and you need to use it for an emergency, its also for people with handicaps! But like i said i don't know if i did something with the OSK to disable the Volume scroll lines on the monitor? But right after that there were no more Volume Scroll lines but the volume does go up and down when pressed! By the way this is not an on screen display, it is an actual Keyboard that is placed on the screen, don't know if thats what you have or not! If you put up the Run window and type OSK then ok, the keyboard will appear!

Hi,

I know about the onscreen keyboard, but the part that is confusing me is how it would interfere with the OSD. The OSD is supposed to be responsible for the volume bars appearing at the lower left. Hmmmm.....

Do a ctrl+alt+delete and see if OSD is in the list of running tasks. If it isn't there, follow this file path and see if the OSD executable is even on-board:

C:\Program Files\Netropa\Onscreen Display

Also, do the other onscreen functions show up. Press the brightness or contrast button on the monitor, once, to see if anything shows up.

I have a Pavilion 7845 with an MX70 monitor. I am not sure how much we have in common.

Here is something simple....have you tried a reboot? They can do wonders sometimes...

maxximillion, I don't know if the osk has anything to do with it or not (probably doesn't) but i only mentioned that because that was the last time we saw the Volume bar Scrooler! The problem now is when i posted this i was at his house in another state and I won't get back to his place til next weekend, but i want to gather all the info I can get my hands on and print it out and try it all when i get back to his place! I did try the reboot twice and no-good! I will print out these instructions you gave me here and anymore you may have during the week and take them with me and get back to you early next week, Meanwhile anything else you can think of please let me know?
