G'day,
I have windows95 and installed 'winspeedup' which stopped my computer from autoloading any cd's. This was repaired by a suggestion to open regedit and change the 'HKEY_current_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/Explorer/NoDriveTypeAutoRun' value to 95.
My father has installed "Winspeedup' onto windowsME with the same effect. Will the value be the same for ME? or is there a different solution? Any suggestions would be much apprectiated. Thanks for your time.
Greg.

Hi Greg,

All I can say is that registries in all the windows versions seem to be remarkably similar. Here is the key from my WinME machine and Autorun works on it.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/Explorer/NoDriveTypeAutoRun

The value is 95 00 00 00

Hope this helps, but the registry is still a learning area for me. Can't really advise too much in that area except to say make a back-up first. :)

i prefer not to muck around with my reg files unless i have to. here's how i turn the auto boot on and off.

control panel
system
device manager
click the x by cdrom
select the cd rom i want
click properties
click settings
enter or remove the check in the "auto insert notification" box.

i turn it off when i'm burning cd's so i get less errors.

Just curious about this utility. Took awhile to find an English version of the developers' website. Did this problem occur as a result of using the registry cleaning function or simply installing it caused this?

I like to keep track of software that has the potential to cause trouble.

By the way....does it work? :D

The Ramblings of Theoran: Remove CD Autorun (http://members.tripod.com/ramblingsoftheoran/Tips/autorun.htm)

I know the above tip mirrors what Mr1drful has already stated ut the link has screen shots to help. The link above explains how to enable/disable autorun. This method works in Win98, ME, NT, & 2000.

A quick thankyou for all your replys.

I found that the "auto insert notification" was already ticked, so little luck there. However changing the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER..." value to 95 worked for both windows 95 (my system) and WindowsME (my fathers) with no problems so far (has been running with the change for several days). So, the problem solved, I thank you all again for your replys. Cheers,
Greg.
