View Full Version : Do I have a Trojan?

Upon starting Windows, my computer locks up.

Upon restarting my computer (safe mode or not, it doesn't matter) Scandisk locks the computer up.

Upon restarting AGAIN, it (usually) works fine, but...

Many programs (some that USED to work!) will not run, giving me the following message...
(Filename) has caused an error in(Filename).exe
(Filename) will now close.
If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer.

Needless to say, restarting does nothing, however, when attepmting to shut down or restart, I get the aforementioned message with the file name "Regenv32.exe"

Is this a Trojan? If not, what is it? And more importantly, how can I fix it?

Hi Crusader,

That file is not a trojan or virus. That's not to say that it hasn't been affected by a trojan or virus, though.

Regenv32.exe is a standard WinME file, but I have seen it cause problems after a viral infection (specifically the Magistr virus). The first thing to do is immediately get a good anti-virus scan done to see if this is the case. I suggest, when you have the thing working well enough, go to the site below and run the full scan. If you have your own anti-virus, make sure it is updated and run a scan with that as well.

If you return no virii, then we can look into some other things, but it sure sounds like a bug right now. :(
