Every time i open internet explorer, it brings up an error message at bottom of screen referring to the SHDOCLC.DLL file and says there is a DNSerror. Whats up with that, I'm connected to the server because my connection status shows some bits received and sent, but i cant get pages to come up in IE.

Hi aat4200 :)

What version of Internet Explorer are you using? Have you tried running the internet explorer repair tool? The SHDOCLC.DLL error seems to be a Microsoft dirty little secret. You won't find much at their knowledge base on this one. There are unsupported patches on the net, but I would first try the repair tool if you haven't done so.

I'll keep this question here for now, but this is more likely a browser issue rather than ME. If we don't get it solved here, I will move this question to the browser forum.

TO use the IE repair tool, you go to add/remove programs right? My IE doesnt show up in the list when i go there so i couldnt run it. If thats not the right way to get to repair it, could you please inform me how. Oh by the way im running version 5.5

Yes, that is where you would normally go to get to the repair tool. Unfortunately you have stumbled onto another Microsoft boo-boo. Sometimes IE doesn't want to appear on the programs list. Lets try this and see if we can bypass this step:

Click the start button, then "run". In the box that shows, put the line below in there EXACTLY, and hit OK.

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\ SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"

Hopefully you will get a little box appear that has three options. "Repair internet explorer" is one of them. Click it and then OK.

BTW....have you gotten any of the service packs for IE 5.5?

A little FYI,

By default, Windows ME doesn't put IE 5.5 in the add and remove programs. You have to have installed IE 6, or one of IE 5.5's service packs before you will see IE in add and remove programs.

aat4200,

Not sure how to proceed with this one now, but pretty sure this is a browser issue rather than a windowsME issue. I am going to move this question to the browser forums and maybe we can get you some more specialized help on this problem.

Your thread is now located in the Internet/Browsers forum. You can get to it by clicking the link below:
