Just a quick question and I'm not sure if I'm posting in the correct place...(I'm running Windows ME.) My question is...can someone tell me what ssdpsrv.exe is? It's in my Startup tab when I run MSCONFIG. Just curious if it needs to be there or if I can uncheck it. Thanks for any and all replies. Merry Christmas! Kelly :)

You can safely remove this entry.
ssdpsrv.exe is for future Plug and Play devices only. Provides Simple Service Discovery Protocol (SSDP) and General Event Notification Architecture (GENA) services for Universal Plug and Play functionality. You can uninstall it by going to Add Remove programs in Control Panel -> Windows Setup -> Communications. Starts up a web server on port 5000.
This is interesting--> ssdpsrv.exe info (http://www.securitytracker.com/alerts/2001/Nov/1002685.html).

:) Thanks for the information, Theoran. BTW, you are only about 35 miles north of where I live. :D Small world, huh? Merry Christmas! Kelly
