When you aren't able to update, does it give you any error message? If so could you make a note of it and post it here

Start off by updating your antivurus program and running a full scan

You can't close ANY popups? Or just some?
And we you restart the computer, can you open IE to, say, this page and then immediately close it okay?

Go here and see if it finds any malware:

Also an online virus scan might be in order (sometimes online scans find things that your onboard antivirus might miss, nothing is 100% effective 100% of the time):

I ran the antivirus and things you told me and all i came up with is this

RESTORE\TEMP\A0086764.CPY->(UPXW) - Tool:PornDialer.gen! -> Suspicious

Is that file located in C:\_restore?

I think it is, disabling system restore temporarily will dump restore points and this file if this is the location.

Right click my computer icon>properties>performance tab>file system button>troubleshooting tab, put a checkmark in disable system restore, click apply and okay out of system properties, reboot.

Reverse the process to re-enable system restore (you might want to run more online virus scans while system restore is disabled). BTW, it is best to disable your onboard antivirus while online virus scans run to prevent interference/conflict.

After you are fairly certain you are virus free, disable your antivirus and firewall and go straight to the Windows Update site and try to update Windows (critical updates only!), then after your update is (hopefully) successful re-enable your security programs.

It's been a while since I ran the scan; did you see an "auto-clean" option? I think it has one.

Otherwise you will need to list the parasites by name and I/we will try to help you find the instructions for manual removal or find free removal tools. Are the items the scan found viruses or some other sort of spyware/malware?
