I am having a problem holding my sound settings. I can go to [sound recorder][edit][options]and place a check mark in the microphone box. The microphone will work great until I shut the computer down - then when I restart the computer, the check mark is gone and I have to go thru the whole procedure again to get the microphone to work. Is there some way I can get the computer to hold the settings relating to the microphone/sound recording properties? I am running Windows ME.
Thanks, Skid

Hi skid,
It's a pretty basic Windows program. I never heard of any bugs
associated with it other than using function keys with Windows2000
on it.
I would open up
Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs
Windows Setup(tab)
in Multimedia uncheck Volume Control and Sound Recorder
OK everything
reboot
open up
Control Panel
Add/Remove Programs
Windows Setup(tab)
in Multimedia check Volume Control and Sound Recorder
OK everything
reboot
In otherwords take it out and then put it back.
If that doesn't fix then I would do the same to the sound driver
in Device Manager.

i'm curious.
why do you want the mic on constantly ?
any program you are using should turn your mic on and off as needed. having your mic on when you're not using it will probably cause problems with other programs that require sound.
windows will automatically reset your mic whenever you reboot. i don't think there is a way to stop that.a quick way to turn in back on after a reboot is to double click on your sound icon in the taskbar and put the check back in.
if the microphone isn't listed there then click on options , properties and add it to the list.

The problem is not with keeping it on all the time, it just that every time you want to use it, you have to go into sound recording and select microphone and put the check mark in the box every time you reboot. You cannot get the microphone to work by just clicking on the sound icon on the taskbar. It shows the microphone is working in the master volume control, but it is not. All changes have to be made in the sound recording from the start menu. It should hold the microphone selection when you reboot.
