closing programs
Does anyone know how I use alt-tab to select and close an application. My norton optimize registry says I should close all other applications before rebooting but says not to use end task on the close program dialog box but to use alt-tab to close them. When I press alt-tab I just get a windows sign with close program under it.What do I do to solve this.

As far as I know alt+tab just switches from program to program (or window to window) and you should be able to use the mouse to click the X to close them. Otherwise I would advise to close all running programs before using the optimize registry function.
BTW, Windows ME has a registry fixer/optimizer already built in, scanreg /fix and scanreg /opt entered into the run command window (in that order and note the space between scanreg and the slash) press enter after entering each command, but you must close all running programs before running these also (ctrl+alt+del and end tasks of everything except explorer and systray). I use these commands as part of my maintenance procedures, it has never caused me any problems, but you never know, systems vary widely even with the same OS so use at your own risk. |

Alt + Tab switches you from program to program. If you want to close them without using the mouse use Alt + F4.
