outlook express

Hi, I've had this problem with Outlook Express for a long time, when I click on it the outlook express box appears blank, this happens two out of three times.
I know when this happens all I can do is shut it down and try again.
I've found that if I try to shut it down too soon it frezzes the comp, I have to wait a couple of minites then end task. I think I have the latest version not sure though. Thanks for any help.

Do you have the latest updates & patches from Windows Update?
including Internet Explorer patches because I think SP1 contains an OE update.

You could try a repair of Internet Explorer (which should also repair Outlook Express).

Goto Add/Remove Programs and double click Internet Explorer.
You should get the option to Repair.

restore

Hi degsy, I went to add/remove programs it dident offer a repair just 'do you wish to remove and restore your previous configuration'
As far as I remember I've always had this problem with outlook express, everything else is working fine.
I think I've mentioned it on here before I was advised to change the settings that load when outlook express opens and that made it load quicker.
Getting it to load first try is unusual though it does happen sometimes.
I've learnt to live with it, just thought there might be something simple that would sort it. Dream on! Thanks for your imput.

Sorry I'd forgoten the previous post. Anyway I decieded to try the first option in the link. No chance.
It came up 'file not found verify Restore from location'.
The save in file, came up, file does not exist do you wish to create it I pressed yes to that.
I think when AnnMarie gave me that link I thought it too complecated for me and it looks like I was right.

Gwilym, this may be of help, it may not, but it's worth giving a try!!

When you open OE, and see what you see, can you do the three finger salute (Ctrl/Alt/Delete), and see if OE is "responding"?

Some time ago I was having a similar problem, and how I was able to overcome this, was by re-booting into "Safe Mode", then opening my OE, then cleaning out any unwanted mails (Sent mails, Deleted mails etc), then I clicked on File/Folders/Compress All Folders, and let it do it's stuff. After that I re-booted, and all seemed to work fine!!

The funny thing is, I called my ISP about the problem, the first guy ran me through a few things which didn't help, so he put me through to another guy, still no good was done, so the third guy telss me I have to re-install my OE!!!

If my suggestion doesn't work, then maybe you should try calling your ISP, hopefully they can give better results than mine!!

Like I said, this may not solve the problem, but it seems you have nothing to lose by trying.

outlook

Hi lufbra, when I press ctr/alt/ del it is there and for quite a long time before it comes up with 'not responding' If I try ending task on it too soon it freezes up the computer.
I've tried what you sugested went into safe mode and compact all files.
I've just tried it now and it opened ok, but it does sometimes so I'll give it about a week and see if theres any improvment.
Thanks for your help yet again. I'll let you know how I get on.

thanks lufbra

Hi there, I just thought I'd post the state of play. It did blank out on me once since I followed lufbra's instuctions, after that it's opened first time every time, I even close it and reopened it a few times and it's been ok.
So fingers crossed it's sorted. Thanks lufbra.leased:
