boot up problem

This is on behalf of a friend who knows less about computers than me, and thats saying something.
He's having trouble booting up, he has a windows boot disc he installes it and goes to restore and gets the message 'Error#88 unable to find drive.
I'll pass on any sugestions.

I believe the error is that the Motherboard/BIOS does not detect the HardDrive.

Any info on the computer and what happened to get to this stage?

I havent got any info, I'll have to get back to him. All I know is it's ME.
It,s the second time it's happened to him, he got someone in to sort it last time.
There is one thing I sent him the link to ad-aware, before the first problem then when he got sorted he asked for it again he's now convinced that has something to do with it. I cant see it myself.
I'll try and get more info.
