Is there any way for a computer (running some version of windows, i.e ME or 98) to connect directly to my machine (running win2000 PRO) over the INTERNET where they can click on files on my machine and just view them without me having to send files as email attachments? I know in a regular network like a LAN setup its easy to do this via NT permissions. How would i accomplish this over the internet? Do I have to set up a dial-in server? Can they just somehow map to my IP address (i.e \\IP\c$? There are two scenarios here I need help with:
1) Source and destination (my) computers are on DSL lines
2) Source is on 56k dialup, and I'm on DSL.

Thanks! (sorry if i posted this in the wrong forum)

I guess I was looking for a quicker more easier solution...as in using the existing capabilities of windows 2000 to allow an incoming connection over the internet...how do companies do it? Can i just set up a VPN server at home and let someone have its IP address to dial in? And if so, how would i set it up? I realize on the 56k side it's a bit harder since I'd have to set up a RAS server or something...help!

That sounds like a great idea. How would i set it up? I have access to IIS (i'd probably have to upgrade my windows 2000 workstation to 2000 Server I'd imagine). Then do i just go under IIS 2.0 and create an FTP site and assign NT perms to it? any other considerations? I suppose I'd have to have a unique URL attached to the share too right? or can i just have folks map to the unique IP address?

Thanks for all your help so far !!!

yes, it should have PWS. What about the issue with unique domain name? Do i need a unique URL for an FTP Site? Or just a unique IP?
