Low Video Resolution
I have just re-installed Win98SE (what a job!) and have got most things running. I still have to re-install a number of programs, but that's just tedious, not difficult. My problem now is with my monitor. I have a Viewsonic A70, and before my recent disaster, it was fully capable of displaying a High Resolution screen with 24 bit True Color, etc. Now, although the monitor is PNP, and I have re-loaded the software for it from the installation disk, ithe computer insists on using a Standard VGA adapter, and displaying only a maximum of 16 colors.
I have gone to Viewsonics site, but no new drivers or adapters are available there. Does anyone have any idea how I can persuade the computer to display more colors? Tom Brady |

To get a higher resolution you'll need to update the video card drivers, not the monitor. Once the video card drivers are updated and you get your resolution all squared away then install the monitor drivers (if needed) to have access to all refresh rates. If you need help finding the video drivers, post back with the video card you have or if it is integrated with the make/model of your computer or motherboard.

Low Video Resolution
Well. to bring Finis to the subject, I finaly "bit the bullet". (I love those hackneyed phrases; "Gordian Knot", "Bite the bullet".) and installed a video card. I could not get the computer to accept any other video adapter than the standard one, and I was tired of messing with it. I had several old video cards lying around, and I popped one in, loaded the drivers, and was off to the races.
Because of innate stubborness, I hate to admit defeat, but one has only so much time to spend. Thanks everyone for their interest Tom Brady |
