Welcome to CTH

How did you Windows 98? Was it on a clean drive? An upgrade? Over the top of itself?

When the fist boot screen comes up hit DEL key to enter setup (or what ever key the screen tells yoiu to get into Setup).

Check the DATE AND TIME, make sure the DATE is correct, if not change it then SAVE & EXIT

I checked out the time and set it accordingly. It still comes to that screen with the lan adapter error number 107 ....

It was a clean boot on an 8 gb western digital hard drive. I installed Windows 98 it went through the whole procedure but seems to be looking to boot from the floppy.....

1962 Boot sequence error.
1. Possible hard disk drive problem

IBM Errors (http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4BAHK2)

In BIOS make sure the boot sequence is set to FLOPPY as the 1st device.

Then go HERE (http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm) and download Windows 98 Custom, No Ramdrive

Then double click in the downloaded file and it will extract to a clean floppy.

Now reboot with it.

When you get to the A:/> prompt type the following:

sys C: (hit <enter>)

Now take disk out and reboot

You need to run scandisk to make sure the drive is OK.

I downloaded the win 98 withno ram and copied it over to c: Upon rebooting it comes to the 1962 screen and won't boot. I tried to install windows 98 again but it tells me to run setup from the hard drive or the cd rom. Any idea besides gasoline and matches.

I rebooted the computer with the win 98 startup disk in drive a . Now on the screen is the following:
cd rom device driver for ide
copyright oak technology
device driver
device name
device mode
firmware version

mscdex version 2.25
copyright microsoft corp
drive r: driver banana unit 0
a:\>

Now what ?

It recognized your cdrom and assigned the letter R: to it.

Now type

sys C: (hit <enter>

Take floppy out and reboot.

I copied the files over with sys c: ------> its said transferred.
I take out the floppy and reboot then I get this screen ....

1962 boot sequence error and that screen is followed by screen with a 107 error, eepro 100b lan adapter failed the media test check the cable then it cycles between these two screens. It looks like on one screen they want me to insert a floppy. Murf thanks for all your help.....

hi

if it is not onboard, kill power, get rid of static, pull the network card out.

I just read something that makes me think that this computer is on a Novell remote boot server. I've tried to boot with 3 different hard drives.... Huh ?

if it tried that, and you put another hard disk in, it would fail, wouldn't it...

how is the boot order set in BIOS?
boot from LAN is a possibility, and on a non-networked desktop, it would give you grief.

looking at bootorder in BIOS is mentioned every now and then.

to boot from floppy, and then C: you want to set bootorder to this sequence too.

The boot sequence in bios is A: then c: then d:
But it won't boot
