View Full Version : Program Errors Everywhere!

For the past week or so I've been gradually gaining more and more program errors for nearly every .exe file I try to use, (netscape, icq, mirc, windows media player...). The exact popup message I recieve (for netscape for example), is this:

Program Error
netscape.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.

Of course, when I try to restart the program I just recieve another program error message. I can use internet explorer just fine and some files work (for example, winamp). I have no idea why this is happening. I'm wondering if I have a virus or need to reformat my hard drive or update my drivers or something? I'm not incredibly PC savvy so anyone that has an idea and can help, please email me. Also, I don't know if this is related, but both of my CD ROM drives refuse to read CD's? Again, anyone who can give me a suggestion please, please help me.

Sincerely,
Denise

You know, I had the same issue about a month ago with Netscape errors, even when I wasn't using Netscape! It got so bad that I just reformatted my hard drive and refused to install Netscape. I got the exact same errors that you did. I also started having issues with both my CD rom drives.. Sometimes the CD would lock up...I didn't even attempt to fix it, i just reloaded the OS (oper system).

Hello Dere Celestine090

What part of OnTarrrriooohhhoooh are you from - (I tried to hate that bit but Bobby Gimby. got it right - catchy to say the least) http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I suspect the problem relates to Netscape and how well it integrates with Windows,(SUPRISE http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ). -[FWIW - I Don't buy into the "MikeySoft's OS's deliberately sabotage NS's products" foolishness - Ie and Netscape are both excellent products that may sometimes not play nice with each other simply because they take different approaches to the task of browsing and displaying content. If all computers were identically configured there would not be a problem but the existence of umpteen configurations means that some functions are going to work better in NS than in Ie or Vice Versa.

I am not an apologist for MikeySoft - It may be that the DOJ SHOULD kick Billy's Butt!!

I am simply saying that the notion that every conflict between a Microsoft product and a competing product is the result of Bill's attempt to rule the world is paranoiac and/or wishful thinking.

What version of NS are you using and was this version resident on your hard drive before you upgraded to W2k - or did you do a clean install of W2k as opposed to an U/G ?

Have you gone into Add/Remove Programs and removed earlier versions of Netscape? - Worth a try - Even if you intend to Stay with NS!

There have been problems between versions of NS - QUIT GRINNING Ie Types or we can talk about Ie 4.x - Where da'hell didj all you go??
