what kind of HDD was in the computer, what kind are you trying to install-----BTW the HDD is already installed and sitting at the A:\ prompt waining your next command----like put in the proper boot disk---with the proper FAT---either 16 or 32----this makes a big difference----don't go into the BIOS ------you don't need to-----has it been formatted and setup for an operating system, yet.

PS was this a used HDD----FAT 16 OR FAT32---with what OS

Welcome

How are the drives connected internally?
Have you checked the jumper settings of the drive?

---If you are getting to a black screen with a flasher--then the HDD is installed----or if you are getting an A:\ prompt---this also means the HDD is installed----what is wrong is---you are not getting to the HDD, that information has been erased----AND HAS TO BE REPLACED----what is missing is the information on how the HDD is setup to receive you operating system.

please don't go into BIOS---CMOS and change anything----THE PROBLEM IS NOT IN THERE---the problem is you can't find the HDD---that has to be replaced with MS-DOS system---ME I JUST PUT IN MS-DOS 5.0 let it setup the HDD for an OPERATING SYSTEM----when this is done---format c--put in my WIN98 BOOTDISK and boot the computer---more later.

If the BIOS is not detecting the drive, then double check the jumper settings and check the cables inside the pc.
make sure they are securely fitted.

What are the PC specs?
How big is the new drive?

Try this
Download this file and run it to create a startup disk.
http://files.frashii.com/~bootdisk/file02/boot98c.exe

It will set your CD as drive R:

When you get to the A:\ prompt type
r:\setup.exe
to start the setup

I have all kind of tools and programs on HDD installation---but can't give them away----when I pick them up from my HDD manufacturers website----I HAVE TO SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THEM TO ONLY INSTALL TO MY COMPUTER ---OR ONLY USE ON MY COMPUTER---hence no can give away.

But you can go to your HDD makers website and D/L all the information you will need -----to do anything---to the HDD---the HDD is the most important item in a computer.----NOT FOR STORAGE----BUT IT HAS THE OPERATING SYSTEM THAT RUN YOUR COMPUTER ON THE -------FIRST DISK ----FIRST TRACK-- FIRST SECTOR---this in itself is the reason most can't install a HDD.

One has to have the computer working ----getting to the HDD---this information is missing---or when you get to the HDD it is the wrong information---replace the information on how to get to the HDD or the MS-DOS system.
