I have a disc that I have many things on. Today I attempted to open one of the files on it and it gave me a message that said it could not open the file because it may be in use, the file format may not be supported by any of the installed converters or the file may be corrupt. It only happens when I try to open this particular file.Could someone explain these messages to me and is there a way to get to this file? Thanks

Right-click the file, click on 'Properties', and let us know what file extension it uses.

When I did that it showed location as A:\ and the type of file is Microsoft Works Word Processing. Also at the bottom, next to attributes, only archive was checked. Should the others be checked? Thanks

Can you open up other works word processing files fine?
Do you have works even installed?

OK--now its a stupid question........How do you copy a file that you can't open?

you do not have to open it to copy. Just copy it into a misc directory on your harddrive.

One way to do it is to go to my computer, click on a drive, right click on the file, click on copy,

Then open your c drive, find and open a directory you want to copy it to, right click, paste

No promises that this will work but sometimes...
