formatting ME

hello, i am trying to install win me after formatting from win 98. i formtatted with the windows ME startup disk, now when i put the win ME OS disk in and reboot, it says invalid system disk. what did i do wrong?

Hi,
Is your PC set to boot from CD?
You can change it in the BIOS.

Alternatively you can boot from the WinME floppy. Choose CD-ROM support.
At the A:\> prompt type the path to the setup file

e.g.
d:\setup.exe
then press return

thanks, i'm gonna run downstairs and see if i can get to the bios, just incase that doesnt' work, how can i find the setup path?

The setup.exe file is in the root of the CD.

So if your CD-ROM drive is drive D: then the path will be
d:\setup.exe

When you boot from the floppy there should be a message on screen telling you what drive letter has been assigned to the CD-ROM drive.

it said to use E:\ but it wouldn't take, then i tried D:\ and got the same error. how can i set the bios to boot from cd? i jsut checked and couldn't find anything

it says, "not ready reading drive E:\,,,,,,,,,,,,,abort, retry, fail?" i have retryed a few times

I can't give you specific instructions but when in the BIOS look through the menus for
Boot Device or First Boot etc.


What was the error for the E: drive?

i found the "Boot from" in the bios and changed it to e and then d and both times got, invaid system disk,

Never seen a BIOS like that.

Usually the options are HDD, FDD, CD-ROM, SCSI etc.


Try this
http://files.frashii.com/~bootdisk/file02/boot98c.exe
Download & run the program to create a Bootdisk.
Boot from it.

It will set the CD-ROM to R:

At the A:\> prmpt type
R:\setup.exe


If it's still not detecting the CD then give it a clean.
(It is an original Windows ME cd?)
