Running windows NT 4.0 service pack 6. Have an AMD 850 processor 256 MB of ram and 20 gig harddrive. Asus k7v motherboard- trying to capture video with "DV raptor" capture card by Canopus. Using premire 5.5 software to do this. When we try capturing it does for only 30 seconds, than stops and says drive speed to slow. The DV raptor came with a CD to run a test on the drives read and write speed- so we ran that and it came up in the red- slowest speed. Have dual harddrives and on the other have windows 98 platform- tried capturing video on 98 harddrive and it works fine- so we know it's not the capture card or software- but something with NT. We're sure NT's read and write speed is capable of running faster than it is on our computer. Don't know if it's something in the BIOS that has to be fixed? Or somthing to do with DMA? Another problem with NT is that when we try to shut it off, it reboots. Have to try shutting it off 4 of 5 times before it finally does.
Does anyone have suggestions on this one?

We use the same capture card and software. Initially we had a whole heap of problems similiar to yours. We use a much lower spec machine than you, a Dell Optiplex G1 with NT4 but with service pack 4. Eventually I had the card sent back and it turned out to be faulty. I believe it may have been the BIOS on the card. As we got the same card back, (I marked it) this may be an issue with the cards. Hope this helps a little.

hi chris.
thanks for the information. it does seem to be an insight which needs looking into.
however, what do you think of this:
we tried capturing video on 98 harddrive and it works fine. (i mentioned this in the first post). so it could be that there is nothing wrong with the card?
can you post me back your ideas? :(

another thing chris. i noticed that you're from western australia. do you know of a service which offer this:
my friend wants to e-mail her letters to an address in australia where the id owner could print it and courier it for her to a postal address in australia. she will of course pay for it.

Sorry missed that part about 98. Possibly service pack? Is there another NT machine you can try it on? I'll have a look at the DMA settings of the machine we are using tomorrow and let you know. Also, have a look at what speed the hard drives are.

hi.
no, we do not have another NT machine to test it on. however, your DMA settings and HDD speed information could be of use to us.
thanks :p
