windows & linux partition

i've made 2 partitions on the same hard disk, 1 for windows - fat32 and 1 for linux, the problems is whenever i install red hat linux either windows or linux first, it overide the windows OS. can anybody assist me on this matter

What partition are you have first on the HD? Do you also have an Swap partition for linux?

My understanding is that a Windows OS needs to always be installed first because of the modifications it makes to the master boot record. Then install the Linux with GRUB or Lilo.

On any dual boot system you would want to install Linux first then Windows. Because windoes XP mainly puts a death grip on the mbr its easier to install Linux first then let windows do its magic on the rest of the hard drive.
