I went into msconfig and disabled msn messenger at start up and that works for about 2 bootups and then it automatically starts again and when I go into msconfig it is check marked. I uncheckmark it, click on apply, and then it goes away. Then it comes back all by itself. What is really going on here? It is like it has a mind of it's own!

Go into MSN Messenger then to the Options/Preferences.
Uncheck to Auctomatically Startup.
If you use Outlook Express, goto the Options and Uncheck to Logon to MSN.

Degsy's right. Changing the preference setting makes a change in the registry. Right now, the registry is telling windows to start MSN Messenger because it is set up to start when windows starts. Tools>Options>General Tab and remove the first check mark. It won't start anymore.
