I have a pc on which Windows xp is installed already, but now i want to install Linux with windows, i dont want to erase any of my files, i have two partitions on my hard drive both are working for windows c and d, on c windows is installed d is a logical partition, so now how can i install Linux on d or partitioning again any drives without erasing information on it and letting linux on a partion of its own.
Please help

If you can spare your D: drive for the linux installation, you should be able to do this with no problem. I would back up the data any way, just in case something does go wrong. Copy everything to your c: drive and then install linux on the D: drive. They have their own partition program which should format it for the linux OS. Linux creates two other partitions (one is for the swap file), and I'm not sure if you could split the D: partition up without causing any data loss on the C: drive. If you have some extra cash, I recommend buying Partition Magic to do this. It will split your hard drive into separate partitions without any data loss. Just get one of the older versions - not very expensive.

Ok I have already installed the linux on my D: drive and windows xp on C: and again partitioned my d: into 7 gb for linux and remaining for windows I had windows xp installed Now with no problem grui boots and iam a very unhappy amn till my modem works with linux
