Can't install windows 2000k

I have a Dell LAtitude C600, 650mhz, 256RAM, 20G Hard Drive, Windows 2000 Pro installed. I bought it from a friend, that bought it from a friend 3 yrs ago so I don't have any of the disk that came with it. Here's the ptoblem.

When you boot the computer up, it shows the windows 2000 screen, you'll see the little meter thing at the bottom letting you know it's loading. Then at about 80% of loading, it would show a blue error screen (Error message below). I tried it several times, but it just didn't want to get past that part. So I said, forget it. I have the windows 2000 Pro install disk, I'll just clear the hard drive & start over.

First, I booted up from the windows 2000 disk. It was going good. Asking me if i wanted to install windows 2000. Then it got to the part about erasing the hard drive. I said, yes. It showed that i had a 19,078 hard drive. It said all will be erased. I said, "yes". It erased everything from my hard drive.

Then it came back & said, the hard drive is either new or erased & needs to be formatted. I said ok. It took 2 hours for it to formatt the hard drive. Then it gave me a blue error screen (Error message below). So I started over. This time it saw the hard drive (19,078), but it had "Raw" next to it. I figured it was just clear, so I procedded to try to format it bacause it gave me the same message that the hard drive was new or it had been erased or damaged.

It was taking forever to formatt it, then I just left it so it could take as long as it wanted. I didn't want to have to sit infront of the computer for 2 more hours. When I came back, my computer had shut down & I couldn't start it up. No power was getting to it. So I changed outlets & it started back up. Note: The power outlet was working fine. I have no clue why it did that.

So I tried to install win2k again. This time it said the same thing "New hard drive or damaged, needs to be formatted." I said, ok. However this time when it shows you the hard disk or partition to choose it showed 19,078 hard drive, but then it said "Setup could not access hard disk. If you hit enter, you get a blue screen (error message below).

Also, I forgot to tell you, when it first boots from the windows 2000 disk (Cd-Rom), it will start reading the disk, then at the bottom of the screen it says "Setup is starting Windows 2000 & shows an error message on the screen (Disk I/O error: Status = 00000201), but it's still reading the disk. The Error message stays on the scree for about 1-2 mins.

Then I get: Welcome to set-up, to set up Windows 2000 press enter.

Then it says, Setup has determined that the hard disk is new or has been erased or that your computer is running an operating system that is incompatible with Windows 2000.

If the hard disk is new or has been erased or if you want to discard it's current contents, you can choose to continue setup

Then I get the lic. agreement.

Then it says: The following list shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on this computer. It shows: 19078 MB Disk 0 at ID 0 on bus 0 on atapi in the box. But just below it it says "setup cannot access this disk" I select enter to set-up windows 2000 & I set a dark blue screen that says:

STOP: 0x0000001E (0xC0000005, 0xBFFC19AE, 0x00000000, 0x63DBD418)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

***Address BFFC19AE base at BFFA3000, DateStamp 3a962223 - setupdd. sys

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as cashing or shadowing. If you need to use safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options.

My hard drive isn't making any funny noises or clicking or anything like that.

You have no clue how much I appreciate the help.

Problem!

Go to the mfg website and download the hdd diagnostic tools available and run them from your floppy drive. Perhaps there is an error on mbr and it can see the drive but not do anything with it. W200 should install easily - i have done mine many times for various reasons.

If the website has, for some reason more than one hdd then you will have to open up your case and get the model off the hdd
