Hi

I am running iTunes for windows on a win2k machine. it is fine for playing mp3 but seems to struggle playing CD's

The CD starts, then seems to stutter and almost struggle to get up to speed, I have tried Music Match also and this has the same issues.

Anyone experienced this before, or have any ideas how to solve it. If any more info is needed, I will post it.

Cheer

Unistall iTunes it is far from being a reliable player.....i have tried about every player there is and the one i have now is the best one i have found...i still use WMP for my videos and midi files but i use Quintessential Player for all MP3s and CDs...give it a try ...you wouldn"t be disappointed.just a side note:are you sure your CD drive is operating properly..it just seems unusual that you are have a conflict with two separate programs.

Thought about getting rid if ITunes but need it for the iPod.

How would I check the CD drive is working properly? (also I have seperate CDRW and DVD drived on my PC and both see to have the stutter problem??)

I was thinking either some conflict was causing me issues, either that or perhaps a driver problem?

well if the issues are affecting both CDRW and DVD i would assume you have a internal problem....have you scanned both for infections?

Tried that player too, same situation.

Any ideas how I cold sort it out? Is there any app i can run that will check the CD and DVD drives are runnig as they should, correct speeds, no conflicts etc etc??

Thanks for the ongoing help with this.

The first thing to do is scan your drives...to make sure they are not corrupted...you never mentioned how old your system is or how much ram you have...you could have a ram problem which could be slowing down your loading speeds[but i highly doubt that]you could try a ram booster...one below is free and is effective...next you could go to the manufactures web site and see if there is an update for the drivers...do your drives seem like they are making more noise than they did before?...do you do alot of burning?

Thanks for your continuing help with this, much appreciated, hereis some more information:

I am unsure how to scan the drives to see if they are corrupted.

I have 512mb ram, teh system is less than 12 months old and I don't do a huge ammount of burning, disc or two a week at the most.

I have checked for updated drivers and seem to be up to date, the drive does tend to make a lot more noise that normal.

As a footnote, I have just played a full CD in "Microsoft CD player" not a stutter stammer or slowdown?

I am thinking some conflict between iTunes and another prog may be the root of my issue, what do you thihnk?

Well that eliminates the problem with the drives if WMP works...now do a complete scan of your computer[Anti-Virus..Adware..Spybot S&D]to make sure the programs are clean.. next would be a complete unistall of iTunes and any other player you have installed[except WMP...which can"t be unistalled anyways]...make sure you remove their folders after you unistall from add and remove window..after this is done reinstall another player such as the one i suggested before [Quintessential Player ]...do not install iTunes yet...now see if your problem still exists

Unistall Players:

1-control panel
2- go to add and remove...and remove players of choice
3- reboot
4-go to programs folder and remove players file
5- reboot

Great

I will have a go of that over the next day or so and report back.

Interestingly I have just downloaded Real player and it works a treat, no stutter.

Problem is unless I pay 'em I only get a lame encoding speek for mp3.

I will uninstall all the media players I have installed and take it from there. I need iTunes fo my iPOD but could use another s/ware as a CD player/encoder and just add the files to iTunes library as and when.

Will make a start on your reccomendations and let you know.

Thanks for all your help on this

well

Think I have tried just about everything now, uninsatlled re installed tried different programmes, sadly, no dice :-(

I have however decided to use real player to play CD's and encode mp3/aac and just import to itunes to update the pod.

Though it seems I could update the pod via RealPlayer, don't fancy risking it so iTues it is.

Thanks for all your help. If I ever find a solution, I will of course post it

Cheers
