My situation is rather disturbing indeed. While attempting to install some new software I noticed my CD-ROM and CD-RW drives didn't show up in Explorer and autorun.exe programs wouldn't start up. I investigated the problem further and found my CD-ROM drivers weren't recognized in Hardware Manager! I think I have possibly deleted some drivers by installing a downloaded program or two. I need help. This is my father's computer and he'll kill me if I break it. Luckily, I have another one that I can possibly use to create a boot disk if that is the fix. My Dad's not back till Friday so I have a few days. Thanks.

Hi Jtens, I assume this is in Windows 2000?
Do you have admin rights on your login?
Get Hardware manager to look for new hardware and see if it will find any sign of the CD drives.

Yeah, I have admin rights. I looked for new hardware and no CD-ROMs come up.

When you go to device manager, does it show the CDROM drives there?

Nope.
