changing control panel display colors

Hi, for some reason I can not change my display setting from 16 colors to 256. I have tried to fix it through the display settings, but when the computer reboots it is still set on 16 color display. Any thoughts?

I have windows 2000

Hi steven49er welcome to the community.

Have you tried reinstalling your video driver, be sure to download the latest driver.

Welcome

If reinstalling the drivers does not help, Did it ever had the right setting? If so, did you install anything whether hardware or software since?

Is your display resolution set too high for the hardware?
