I am trying to reformat a Hard Drive.
The computer originaly had Win 98SE on it. Then Win 2K was installed (as an upgrade) and the file system was converted to NTFS.
I would like to reformat the drive so that I can do a very clean install of Win 2k, I would also like to keep it in NTFS format. Every attempt to Boot to DOS has failed  (I am not a DOS person- but was just planning to run "format c:").
I have read a number of tutorials- but none seem to match up right, most are attempts to go back to 98- or involve FAT 32.
Thanks :)

BTW, I am not an expert (incase there was doubt)- I have seen reference to things like fdisk and others but i must admit I am not sure what that means.

Hi mntamimi
There's probably other ways to do what you
want.
But an easy way to do it is to use Partition Magic by Power Quest.

Hi there,

This is more of a software problem, so I'm moving this post to the Win 2000 forum.

Just to clarify, you mentioned Win2K was installed as an upgrade. Do you have the full version or the upgrade version to do your clean install?

Sedu, I have the full version. I just installed Win 2k (that first time) as an upgrade. In retrospect I should have formatted the drive before I installed Win 2K, as there seems to be plenty of info out there on reformatting from Win 98SE. But, of course, I didnt...

If you are planning on formatting the whole drive had having ONLY win2k on your computer then read the following. If you want to have Win98 and Win2k on you machine the read THIS!! (http://www.cybertechhelp.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=001077)

Formatting in Win2k is alot different than in Win98. You see, when you are installing Win2k, that is when you format it. See if this (http://www.windowsreinstall.com/install/win2k/installw2k/index.htm) helps.

Hello all of U,

i have to dela with the same issue.
Formerly i installed Win'98, then update it by means of w2k.
It looked quite good..but now, i have a trouble coming from spooler service !..and i want to reformat my system partition where is located W2K, without reformat my other logical partition where i have stored all my data.
And in the contrary to Win'98, i have only access to the 'console' , that is like DOS..but...U are not allowed to re-format the partition where is located the system !..
So, i will try tonight with a boot disk, then format C:...nevertheless, if someone had already did it..Let me know!
Thanks .
