I am having trouble with Cyberlink PowerDVD, I have been using this programme for 2 yrs. now with no trouble whatsoever. Now when I attempt to start a DVD I get the message "No disk in G Drive" which is my DVD player, also usually the control panel for the player is shown below the curtained stage, this does not appear now. I sometimes can start the DVD by inserting the disk and pressing Play at the same time, but this doesn't work every time.
My computer is a Pentium 4 running Windows XP Home. 512 RAM.
I would appreciate any help in solving this problem.

Have you tried cleaning the drive with a disk cleaner?

Thanks TJolly but I have tried cleaning the DVD player. The point is that the player plays audio disks OK. it also reads data disks OK. With the PowerDVD programme by pressing "Play" at a certain time after the disk has been inserted the DVD starts up with no problem. After running the movie for a while, then stopping it, the DVD will start every time that "Play" is pressed.
If the programme is stopped and restarted, pressing play will not start it and I get the message "No disk in G Drive". As I mentioned originally the programme itself does not appear to be correct, the screen display is missing the control panel for the PowerDVD in spite of numerous re-installs.
I have now reached the totally confused state and would appreciate any help on this subject.

Put a disc in the drive and then go to my computer and post back what it says about the drive and cd drive.

Hi TJolly.

Thanks again for the info. Placing a disk in the DVD player, the went to My Computer as suggested and beside my "G" drive it gave the name of the DVD.
I then clicked on the title and a window tells me that it couldn't find PowerDVD and to enter the .exe file, when I did the movie started. I then tried PowerDVD and again the movie started. It looked like success, but when I removed the disk and restarted the programme again I received the "No disk in "G" drive. I'm hoping that you can explain why this is happening.
Thanks for taking the trouble.

Which .exe file did you have to install?

Sounds like PowerDVD and/or Windows is having the problem not your DVD drive. Which version are you using v4 or v5? Can you uninstall and resinstall PowerDVD? Or if you're using v4, if you can afford it, try upgrading to v5.

Thanks to both TJolly and Baser-X for their assistance.
The situation now is that I have purchased a DVD burner with V5 PowerDVD
included. I have to confess that the V2.55 which I have been using is a little antiquated, but it had been operating so well for so long, that it threw me off
when it started playing up. I am now inclined to think that it is a fault with the progamme and not the player.
I will install the DVD burner and see how it goes from then, again I want thank you both for the quick responses to my problem.
I will post the results of my upgrade with PowerDVD shortly.

Further to my problem with PowerDVD, all is sunshine again. My latest purchase of a DVD Burner complete with PowerDVD V5, has solved my problem. Thanks again to TJolly and Baser-X for responding to my post.
