i am having windows 98 shall i install windows 2000 over this windows 98 or i have to format my system . help me is it possible to put the cd and click install will work or i have to format the hard disk

After saving your data, it is best to do a clean install by booting from the Win2K CD and letting 2K format and install itself. An install over top of 98 can often cause problems immediately or somewhere down the road.

Sorry to sound dim but does this mean 98 has to be uninstalled and than 2k installed? :confused:

By letting the Win2k install format the hard drive, Windows 98 will be wiped away completely and there will be no chance for data recovery.
I agree with sedu, that a format a reinstall is the best way to go, that way you don't get "OS Decay" and incompatible file corruption.
