At startup I get a Winlogon.exe application error. the box says "the instruction at "0x10017ef4" referenced memory at "0x02907000". The memory could not be "read"
If I click OK then I get the rundll error and my computer reboots. I can leave the message there and continue running.
Please help

Hi hrjjohn
Give this (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q262490) a look over.

Might be faulty memory chips.

Well, the flash was longer than I had anticipated. I removed the 256 stick and left the 512 in and had same winlogon error. Then removed the 512 and put the 256 in and same problem. The reason this has taken so long is that during these changes and still this morning, on boot up when it comes to the CAL screen and i then enter password there is a pause and the CAL screen comes back again. After repeated attempts I quit for the night and same thing this morning but on the 2nd try it booted ok except for the winlogon problem.
??????????????????

Hmmm, have you tried running a virus check?

I initially ran all the adaware, spybot, spyhunter and avg(anitvirus) and nothing of interest came to light. however, i did find Wintools in my system when I ran HijackThis and then removed all those entries and from Prorgams, etc. Now the Winlogon problem has gone away.
It is just frustrating to have to do this all the time. It was much simpler even 2 years ago.
Appreciate the replys.
