I was using a plc software program (WinNT OS - 4.0 Workstation sp6) and recieved an error message. Shutdown the software & restarted but alas the same error message. I then restarted WinNT and when restarting I had a Disk IO error and WinNT would not start. I then attempted a repair with the WinNT cd. I elected not to replace the files that the repair indicated as modified from original. No Luck. I then attempted a Win2K update which did not see WinNT therefore installed Win2K in the Win2000 directory. Win2K runs fine but the loaded software will not because they were installed in WinNT. If I reinstall the software it still will not run because it installs in WinNT directory. What should I do?

Hi cbw, welcome to Cyber Tech Help.

I never liked the updated versions to install O/Ss. More times than
not one gets problems down the road. If you cannot obtain a full
version of Windows2000 then the update will do. Either way your
going to have to rebuild your whole O/S.

WindowsNT and Windows95 are not happy O/Ss to run these days.
In their day they were better than what was previous but it's 2002 now
so we have to get an old shoebox and burry these old things in the
backyard because they are in a sense...dead.

My suggestion would be to format the hard drive, install NT, upgrade
to Windows2000. After that is completed then visit Microsoft and update
Windows2000 and get any criticals and any IE updates showing. Only
after all that is complete should you start installing any programs.

Hope this helps more than it hurts ;)
