I set up a network at my house with three computers. Whenever I try to connect to one of them from another computer within the network I'm prompted for a network password. I don't seem to recall ever having set a network password. Where could I find out what the password is?

What are the user account setups on the PCs?

You may need the Same User Account on each pc, all with passwords.
This will authenticate you on the network.

Each computer has simply one user account. I've actualy run into another problem now. The first computer runs win98 SE, the second computer runs Win2k SP4. If I try to connect with the win98 computer I'm prompted for a password, however if I try to connect with the Win2k computer I'm told that the network path does not exsist, even though the win98 computer name is found within "Computer Near You".

As a test try setting up a new user accound on each PC.

Maybe a username called Test and a password of Test.

Also on win2k you need to add the user name of the win98 machines
so win2k will allow a network connection. You need to open
Users and Passwords in Control Panel...

...and whatever the user name is on the win98 machine you have to add that.

When sharing any drives on the win2k machine you have to "Browse"
the drive letter and ensure there is no "$" sign before the drive letter.

Whenever I connect my W98 machine to a W2k machine. it always needs password. I enabled "guest" account and assigned a password for it. I tried to connect to W2k machie from w98 one. When it asks for password, I used guest account's password. It works but I am not sure if it causes a security problem. Because guest account is enabled...
