Greetings, O Gurus & Wizards!
I need to migrate data files from an ancient Win95 machine with no real peripherals (CD burner, etc.) to a new Win2K machine. It looked to me that the best way to do this (without seriously disrupting the hardware) was via direct cable connection between the two machines using the parallel ports. The software for doing this is built in to both OSs so, I thought, no sweat! Silly me!
I can get the machines to see each other and connect to each other in each direction—that is, either machine will agree to be host and allow guest connections from the other machine. However, when I make the Win95 machine the host (since that's where all the files are), the Win2K machine won't show the shared volumes even though it reports a successful 4 Mb/sec connection. When I try to go the other way, the Win2K machine allows the Win95 machine to connect but demands a password even though I've specifically told it to accept this incoming connection without question. No password assigned to anything on the Win2K machine will allow the Win95 machine in! Grrrrrr.
I have finally resorted to physically moving the harddrives for now, but I'd like to get the DCC to work in the near future for these and other machines. Does anyone have any obvious ideas that I am overlooking?
I have installed all of the proper networking clients and protocols and I get no reported errors concerning them. Can you help further?
Thanks very much.
Chas.
P.S.: What's this "junior member" nonsense?
