I work at place that has a small network which basically consists of stand alone windows 2000 machines(5 of them). I have a laptop that I plug in beside of my desktop at work to access the network. The laptop has windows xp home on it.
I mostly just hook up the laptop to the network to access the internet and share a printer that my desktop has attached to it.
BUT, everytime I restart my laptop or plug it in for the first time in the morning; If I want to access anything on my desktop computer then I first have to go to networking neighborhood and click on my desktop computer,,,,When I do this, it ALWAYS prompts me for a name-password, which when I enter it goes through just fine...And I can access files and access the printer on the desktop (from the laptop then) over the network...What I want to do is to make this laptop not require me to go through all of that just to print...I can't find a way to make it remember the password or username..
Actually I don't even have a password on the desktop, I just have to enter the username to get access when that little "box" pops up..
Can anyone please help me?
Thanks,
George

Hi George_Banshee, welcome to Cyber Tech Help.

On a Windows2000 network your being prompted with the
password dialog because that's how Windows2000 operates.

All this is handled in Groups and Policies. What your after is
a policy setting called Minimum Password Age.

If you can logon to the desktop without a password then
a system administrator has setup that computer to work
in that way for you. You will need the system administrator
to setup your desktop in the way you are asking regarding
your notebook(laptop).

I'm afraid that's all I have for you. I will move this post over
to the Windows2000 forum because it's more of an operating
system question.
