I am using a HP PAvilion Computer using Win 2000. It has a Rockwell HCF 56K Fax PCI modem. I attempted to connect to the net but did not hear the modem dial (speakers work) and got error message 777. What is the problem

777 The connection attempt failed because the modem (or other connecting device) on the remote computer is out of order. This looks like a driver issue. Read this for more information on this error message.

hai it could be a very simple problem. check it out whether the telephone cable is connected to the line port or phone port behind the modem. If u r able to diagonise the modem then problem with telephone.
check out one by one first physical connection 2. control panel modem settings, 3. Dial up networking etc. it will be sorted out bye
