I'm try to do a new install of Windows 2000 pro by booting with the CD on a new 200 gig hard drive. The CD boots fine and allows me to partition the disc and starts installing the setup files. But then it asks me to restart the computer and the goes right back to the original setup screen. I can't seem to get past this setup screen to continue the installation. The new 200 gig harddrive is the only drive in the computer setup as master on the primamry channel.

I'm thinking theres a problem with setting up such a large drive. Anyone have any ideas. Could it also be a problem with the RAM, its new also

Thanks for the help

Welcome :)

Is the BIOS detecting the drive correctly?

Is it a single 200gb partition?

When you reboot have you tried removing the CD?

The BIOS is seeing the hard drive automaticly so the setting should be good. Do I need to verify the setting somewhere? The drive I purchased did not have sectors and cylinders listed on it.

I have setup all kinds of different size partitions on the disk, but I have haven't fully partioning the whole thing. I tried small partions sense I figured this might be a large drive problem but that didn't help

I have tried removing the CD and I get a no operation system present prompt

Thanks for the help

Try installing from the HDD.

Use a DOS startup disk to bootup.
Run SMARTDRV
Copy the I386 folder to the HDD.
Then run c:\i386\winnt.exe
