NT server 4 with updated patches Windows 98 workstations. Users get kicked off network when they execute the print command this happens randomly to different users. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey byablons and welcome to Cyber Tech Help http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif
What printer(s) are the computers connecting to ?
Do you get any errors ?
and finally does this happen to any specific application when printing or is it all apps ?

OK! User forgot take down error and I could not duplicate so I told her to next time take write down error or call me when it happens. using HP 4000 Laser printer they also have networked a a konika printer Copier with its own server this has caused problems before. This just started happening since adding 2 new users to the network. I am wondering if it is a lisence issue?????

Hello Dere
It could be a licence issue but I also wonder if perhaps the user has not been granted permission to access the printer? Is this a purely peer to peer setup or is their an NT Server controlling user logons and permissions? Please post a brief description of the network configuration.
If this a NT network complete with a server check under policies>policies and make sure that the user has the necessary permission individually or as a member of a group that has access to network services.
Depending on the configuration it could be that the number of connections allowed on the print server has been restricted. Is the printer configured as a shared printer attached to one of the workstations or is it attached to a print server? If attached to a print server is there a restriction in place ?
If the printer is attached to a print server - does the user have a connection mapped to the printer ?

At first I thought it was when she was executing the print command but that was not the case. I just got kicked off without any warning errors or anything. I went to log back on without rebooting and it could not find the domain. When I reboot the pc I came back on ok but the login script took longer than usual to execute.
The konika has its own Box but the HP4000 is just running on a jet direct card off the server. User has same policy as other users. Another user had a problem at the same time could there have been some sort of collision. Or is there some setting that they are sharing. How do you map a connection to the printer????
Thank you for the suggestions!

OK I've narrowed it down to either the Konica print server or an HIS Database application server causing collisions. Thursday night I rebbot the server thinking that this would freshen thing up for Friday as I was going out of town Friday Morn. I get a call Friday morn telling over half the user's can't get onto the network. I shut evrything down and rebbot the server. I left the konica printer down (Will boot it up later today or tommorrow) and the HIS Database server down. Haven't had any problems all day Friday and so far no problems today. So it's gotta be one those two servers will bring them on line through the week and see what happens?????
