I just recently installed win2k pro, and i've had quite a few problems since doing so.
The first one is related to my soundcard under gaming.. or.. i believe using direct sound.
When I open a game (unreal/ut/rune) the sounds are very faint and very distorted but they slowly get louder and less distorted.
Sometimes when i change level, the sound are fine, other times they go back distorted till they slowly come back to normal. I disabled direct sound and it was fine - except i got a delay in the sound http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif Thats bad http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/frown.gif
Also i experience lock ups while gaming .. and they don't resolve http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif I can't ctrl-alt-del but i have to reset :/
This has happened HEAPS and i can't hold up a game for more than 30 minuites without having to restart.
I have no idea what is causing the lock ups because i have set my voodoo2 back to normal speed (i had it *slightly* overclocked) and still experiencing these lock ups.. sometimes it locks up for 3 seconds then unlocks up (yay detial).. I don't experience any problem with sound outside of games. :/
moan and also when i exit a game it usually pops up a dialouge saying "blahblah.exe (rune.exe, unreal.exe, unreal tornument.exe) has generated errors" after i canel the log file the system is unstable and usually (yay) locks up again.
my system is:
celeron 300a overclocked @ 100x4.5 (been so for 2 years)
64mg pc100 ram
sis 6326 onboard video card
pcchips m747 motherboard
vooodoo2 using win2k referance beta drivers

OK, I talked to you a bit about this on ICQ.
So you've tried the updated Soundblaster drivers I gave you the link to ?
Are you using an NTFS or FAT32 filesystem ?
Have you tried reading the error logs you get when these programs generate the errors ?
Are you getting any BSOD's (Blue screens of death) ? If so, what error code does it produce ?
Finally, do your CD's play fine ? ie. Sound quality

i tihk its direct sound problems.. yeah i couldn't ifnd win2000 drivers at any of the sites. I tried installing nt4 drivers and that... just managed to make the computer get all these errors everywhere upon logging in http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/wink.gif
the computer freezes before any of the error logs are finished logging.

Hey,
Having talked with Mort on ICQ he upgraded from 64MB to 128MB RAM which Win2k would have like a lot more and this fixed the problem.
