I want to connect my hp deskjet 870cse to my imac dv se. I'm having trouble- I can't get a page setup to appear, it says to pick a printer in the chooser. I'm using a keyspan usb serial adapter with driver software v1.8.
I have the hp drivers v9.4 already loaded. my operating sys. is mac os-finder 9.0 and sys 9.0.4. I don't know what to do I've spent over a month trying everything that hp support told me to do, keyspan doesn't return my emails, mac support wants $50 per support session.

Welcome to CTH :)
The first things that come to my mind are:
Does the printer appear in the chooser?
Is the converted going into one of the ports on the iMac itself or via a hub or the keyboard?

hello steve:
thank you for your welcome and help.
yes the printer is visible in the chooser and the converter is plugged directly to the imac-usb port 2
all software appears to be installed. could there be an OS problem or compatibility.

In the chooser do you have options for which port the printer's on?
Also disable AppleShare if it's on and you don't need it.

steve:
appleshare is off.
the keyspan port in which the printer is connected is chosen.
could it be that the laserjet icon in the chooser is causing a conflict-this icon came installed with the imac-I don't think so but maybe?

Shouldn't be...
I'm starting to suspect incompatibility between the printer and the USB adapter...
A new USB printer is fairly cheap ;)
