Wow a post in the Mac forum!! :) :)
Hi Kevin,
What OS are you running?
Amount of free HD space? Amount of RAM?
Have you rebuilt your desktop recently? If not you should try that first.
Hold down the Command(Apple) key and the Option key while your iMac starts up. You'll get a message stating something like "Are you sure you want to rebuild the desktop file on XX. this may take a few minutes." Click okay and wait for it to finish. Then reset your clock and Date and restart to see if it holds.
If that doesn't work you may try zapping your PRAM.Hold down Command(Apple) + Option + P + R keys while you start up your iMac. You'll hear the normal start up chime. Then you'll hear the chime a second time. Let go after the second chime. Then once the iMac starts up. Reset your clock and date and restart to see if it holds.
If neither of these work your internal battery may be going bad.
