I burned nineteen and half *full* superdisk "data etc" onto three (700MB) blank cd-rs... took around ten minutes each. Why didn't I see the light a long time ago...gezzz. Still have thirty plus zips to go. Which brings me to a couple of questions off hand.

One: When I shut the power button "on the Yamaha" off after I'm done burning/verifying/testing/ closing toast 4.1 the end result my 'puter freezes "<--not really a freeze". What it does is the mouse pointer still moves etc but nothing will function (folders etc) for sometimes a full five minutes before everything kicks back to normal. I've had to force quite "cmd/sht/pw" almost every time. So an extension/cp conflict it seems. Toast installed three exts. cd reader/firewire support/usb support. My first thought was "why" the usb? Sense I'm running the burner strait to the FW port on the box. pulled it out of the ext folder and rebooted. No change-"which still make me wonder *why* its even in there" even though it didn't solve the freeze bit. Next was replacing the pref with a fresh one, Allocated more ram to the cashe plus toast. zilch. Electrical is no problem "dedicated circuit with ground". So far the only way around this is to either leave it on or shut it off after I shut down the 'puter...<--did I just answer my own question there? Fire wire (chain..!) Maybe its not hot pluggable after all, more like SCSI even though the book/yamaha/the world says different....ney. I'm sure there's other things I'm forgetting to mention.

Two: When I use the zip (100) or superdisk. Say I downloaded whatever. I put a copy in either "storage device" for back up. As I go a long *adding*to that SD till its close to full. Then I grab another blank and start over again. Well with the burner it appears that to do the same task, you have to use the "write session" mode which leaves icons coming out your ears on the desktop etc. OR wait till you have anough to fill a cd-r.... Maybe I'm missing something here.. I can be on the net or doing anything and just open a zip to thru whatever in with in seconds. To me it seems thats not the case with a burner.

In a sence thats ok cuz I have to use the zips/sds anyways or toss em http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/smile.gif .

All in all I'm pleased with the yamaha except they only supplied a 24" FW cable, which didn't cut it.

Just have to get past that no.one problem for now. Although I would like some input on no.two also.

end of soap.

Hey There Bill.. You don't need the USB extensions since you're running with a Firewire connection.. Trash those puppies! As for the freeze.... hmmmmm..... well it could be a conflict with the Apple standard cd extensions or the apple standard Firewire extensions, would be my guess. Toast recommends that you trash the Apple cd extensions and all other 3rd party cd extensions. Check out the toast manual for a bit more detail. Personally I leave all my stuff on 24/7 and in my experience hot swappable is not at all the case 90% of the time.

Number B
You can write sessions for the cd alike you said but if you are writing a lot of them then I suggest waiting for a full burn. I personally back up to zips untill I have about 6 or 7 full... Then burn a CD from those. That also gives me an opportunity to delete anything in the back up, which I may have missed, just before I burn a CD.

Be carefull with the cd's remember they break, melt and crack and you'll lose all your data forever. I generally burn 2 cd's for real important stuff and keep one copy in a safe burried 6 miles underground in a lead vault somewhere in the deserts of Arizona, but don't tell anyone.

The toast usb is history...I pulled it out, then did a test run on cd-rw.
Works fine without that guy.

I pulled out the two apple FW exts and put them on my desktop. Fired up the burner and the puter wouldn't recognize the burner. SOooo I stuck one at a time back in the ext folder. first one=same thing. Pulled out that one and replaced it with no.two. Same thing, puter wouldn't recognize the burner. No freeze though (cuz how could it). Then I put them both back in the exts folder and the burner works like a champ, except el freeze-o again when I turn it off. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/frown.gif Any other ideas. If I leave it on, seems to be ok. Though to early to tell sence I haven't played around with it that long.

On that other thing about burning/zips etc. I figured as much. Which is cool. fill up the zips
then burn baby burn... On the thing about making two burn copies of each "important". Good
idea!

"and keep one copy in a safe burried 6 miles underground in a lead vault somewhere in the deserts of Arizona, but don't tell anyone." If ya see a green rock close by your hide-away....
just ignore it and above all don't touch it! My hide-away has some surprises for on
lookers. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
