I recently installed 9.1 without realizing what lay ahead. What follows is a rant, but if someone can provide fixes they would be welcome.
Anyway, this 9.1:
Makes it impossible to use my favorite sound (the wild eep)
Gives me a bunch of new and unwanted fonts, taking away my old ones
Messes up my trusty After Dark screen saver
Has this annoying "keychain" that I can't disable, to provide me with protection I don't need
I could go on, but any help with any of this would be great
Thanks,
Carl

Hi crinzler.

What OS did you upgrade from? I assume you upgraded from 8.6 or something older.

To use the wild eeep you'll have to copy it from an old system file and simply drop it in the new system file. Apple simply changed the standard soundset. I think this is the first complaint I've heard about it. OS9.1 includes stereo sounds rather than simple mono sounds. An improvement.

New and unwanted fonts.... go to System Folder > Fonts and remove them. Place your fonts that you want in the same folder. be certain to leave Charcoal, Chicago, Geneva, and Symbol otherwise you may be more surprized at problems you'll encounter.

After Dark. . . your version of After Dark may be incompatible with OS9.1. Compatability is something you should always check before an OS upgrade so you know what you are in for. You should check After Dark's web site to verify that it works with OS9.1 and see if there is an update for it. Many apps gave free upgrades for compatibility when OS9 was released.

Keychain. . . It can be killed. I've done it. Go to the System folder in the Extensions folder trash the Keychain extension. In the Control Panels folder trash the Keychain Control Panel. Restart and Keychain is gone for good. The keychain control panel and extension can also simply be disabled via the Extension Manager control panel.

Hope this helps a bit.

I approached Keychain first (I'm pretty sure I can handle the fonts,: I'll look for the eep). I followed instructions, but I think I need to go back a step. My email then asks me for the password to my email provider--something I stored in previous versions. What next?
Thanks,
Carl

Because you had Keychain active you may need to go to the System Folder > Preferences and trash the keychain preferences.

To be honest I always trash Keychain as soon as I install the OS so it's never been used. If it has locked some items it may also be necessary to trash the preferences files for those items as well.

I would try just trashing the keychain prefs first though. (And of course restart once keychain is deactivated.)
