This forum is so empty. Maybe it's because the MACs are a far superior machine and that the software is specifiaclly written for it. I don't know. it just seems that the MAC users have so much fewer problems than us Windows people that no one needs to post questions. Or maybe it's because Windows advertises to the masses about it;s simplicity that the computer illiterate user will run towards Windows. Then again, maybe MAC user just fix there own problems and have no need to post questions. Hum?
P.S.
Just making sure that the forum still worked. :)

Yup.... Mac are soooooooo trouble free. :)
Hey Steven.. I'll probably be making that jump as well in the next week or so. We can fumble throught it together. :) Adobe Illustrator 10 is getting ready to ship. It's the first real high-end application that's OSX native. that's what I was waiting for.

I've decided to go for it now that 10.1 is out and might be stable :)

Up and running 10.0.4. Noticed several bugs so far. The most annoying.... a sound bug that doesn't turn of the speakers at times. Thank the good Lord for the mute button on the keyboard!
Apple has an update bundle for owners of OSX prior to 10.1. it includes the 10.1 update a full install CD of 9.2.1 and a couple other things. Totally Free from Apple dealers. It's in stores here in the states on the 29th (today). My local Apple dealer was out of them by 11 am. They are getting more on Tuesday and my name is on the reserved list. :) Will get 10.1 then.
A lot of the things I want to use aren't compatible with 10.0.4 and I need 10.1. The most noticable thing is drivers for my WACOM Intuous tablet. I hate using a mouse! And the onlu USB mouse I have is the little puck. I REALLY HATE that thing!

I was told by my local Apple dealer that he'll have the full 10.1 installer by Tuesday, he was ecpecting it yesterday but that's not happenned :(
I'll not have time to play with it before the weekend now (I'm due a reformat so I might as well do it in one go, I want to change the partition structures anyway) so I'll probably pick up my copy on Friday now.

Theo, I have a great Idea. Buy us both one so we can both be happy....LOL
Seriously.. With Gates having part to do with Mac's now, Expect the quality to go down very quickly....
In the next couple of years, we will be seeing Mac forums just as much as Windows... Thats a shame to......

Dodge,
I do expect a bit of a bite from the Gates camp. But in general Macs won't deteriorate too much. They are used for very differnt purposes thatn Windows machines. The advertising, design and print industries will all keep Apple on their toes.

Dahma,
I deleted you're post. it was simply inflammatory and held nothing but insults.

Buzz, I was thinking more of the Home users though. I just hope they keep Gates back a bit, so they don't ruin the quality.... I for one Hope your predictions are right....

Actually with the advent of OSX (which is unix) I see the home user market growing once the bugs are worked out.
OSX is really interesting.. it's a hybrid of the classic Mac OS and the Windows OS. It's really middle of the road.

I could detect the humor. But with how slow this forum is it was a hit or miss.
The post was more apt to piss someone off than anything else.
No hard feelings I hope. At least there are none on my part.

oooooo an LCII.. I used one of those when they were brand spankin' new... I think I'd be a little disparaging towards Macs if that was my only experience! :) Now get on a dual 800 G4 then... you won't complain. :)
I'm not one of those "Mac rule" people either Dahmna. Both platforms server their purpose. Just differnt tools for different jobs.

Hi guys! I am actually enjoying my iMac OS9. I think that I am finally learning how to use it. :) Thanks to your help. I am switching back and forth from work and the Tangent (that is kinda Quirky) to my Mac. I am going to try the Virtual PC in hopes that I can share some documents. Is that asking too much? Jazzy

I don't think you need Virtual PC to share documents, the Mac version of Office is entirely compatible with the PC version as far as I know, and there's a program called MacLinkPlus that will convert most other kinds of files for you.
The two of them will probably cost less than VPC, and being Mac programs rather than emulated PC programs should run faster, and have a better interface ;)
BTW I've now got MacOSX 10.1, and discovered that the UK beta of AOL won't work with it yet, and that Classic can't talk to the modem. I've signed up for the US beta, so I should be sorted in the next few days, but I'm dual booting, which is exactly what I spent £96 to avoid

Steven, I believe the AOL problem exists in all versions of OSX, not just the UK version.

I think it's just AOL trying to mess up another OS! that's what I think, but who really cares what I think. :(
**goes and stands in a corner for saying bad things about AOL**

Now got the US version of AOL for MacOSX and it is definitely working, I'm in IE 5.1 as I write this :)
A little slower than the classic version at connecting, but it's not crashed yet, unlike the classic one run under 9 (by Classic I mean booted as 9, not run under classic... confused yet?)

Steven, yes I am completely confused.. Of coarse I stay that way....lol

I'm confused to. Please explain to me the benefits of the MAC
Buzz
October 12th, 2001, 06:40 PM
The #1 benefit, Theorian is that they do not run Win 98, Win ME, Win NT, or Win 2000. :D
Of course they could if you want them to.
Actaully macs are built for graphics and sound. That's the core structure of the system. They are used by 90% of the graphics and printing professionals in the US. Applications like Adobe Photoshop were born on the Mac and are still written for the Mac then ported over to work on PCs. So naturally, they run faster and better on a Mac. Similar to the same reason why all web browsers run better n PCs.
It all depends what you use the machine for... PCs can be much better for crunching numbers and doing statistical data.
But honestly, anymore there is no earth-shattering major difference between the two. And Mac OSX is actually UNIX with a GUI. It's nothing like any previous Mac operating system.

Certainly is different, this terminal window is pretty cool, as is the fact that at last there's a firewall not only available but built in.
However probably ten times as many potential threats now it's unix based.

Actually MacAddict did a story a few moths ago. Its basically as safe as the classic. there are 2 options you cna turn on that blows that theory out of the water. i can't remember where the options were but they are off by default. I'll see if i can dig them up.

What's the betting I've turned them on? :D
I'm currently trying to work out why mail.app needs the address of an SMTP server when X has sendmail built in...
Think I may have to get the source of pine or something and compile that, seeing as my ISP (AOL) don't provide an SMTP server
