My son has a Performa 6200 running on OS 8.1 His printer wasn't printing so it was suggested that we reinstal the software. After doing so upon restarting we recieved an error message of error type 10. After zapping the PRAM and reboting we recieved a message of illegal instruction, then after rebooting again a white box appears then type 10 again. Do we need to reinstal the system software or is there another way as he has alot of 3rd party stuff and work he's done that he dosn't want to lose? Thanks! myryz@earthlink.net

just so I'm clear..... Everythign (other than the printer) was runnign fine prior to you installign the printer software correct?

if that's the case you may simply have an extensions conflict. The first thing to do would be to check the printer manufacturer's web site to see if there are any new driver updates. If there are install those first and see if your problems deminish.

For the record a system reinstall is probably not necessary. Simply removing the printer software should correc tthe issue if it is indeed a conflict. That however, won't allow you to print. The new drivers should help.

One note, OS8.1 may not be supported for newer drivers, be certain to check the system requirements when you download drivers.

I would also reccommend an upgrade of the OS to 8.6. OS8.6 is a more stable, trouble-free OS than 8.1.
