Having installed Windows 2000 Pro (and reinstalled modem driver for my notebook), I tried restarting machine. At the Windows 2000 logo, the screen froze. I tried to reinstall win2000 thinking that might solve the problem.
When I reboot the machine and press F8 to enter safe mode, i get a light blue background which says Windows 2000 prof and the small box that says preparing start-up....but it just hangs.

How can I either reinstall or get windows 2000 to work again. there must be some conflict of some sort.

I dont have a boot disk or emergency repair floppy (although I do have the installation CD which was upgrade disk from win 98). i do have access to another PC if that would help.

Any help gratefully received.

Welcome :)

Are you wanting to try to save the current install or are you happy to wipe the drive and start from scratch?

What was the original operating system on the laptop, also was there some problem that caused you to decide to reinstall or install win2k
