I would like to get my iMovie out of my G4 onto a VHS tape. Do I need a board of some kind?
I was thinking of buying a Sony Digital 8 camcorder, I'm pretty sure I can export directly to it but I don't know if I can come out of the camcorder into a VHS recorder.
Thanks

Well everything I've seen requires an external converter for around $300 US minumim. It's real easy to get things into a Mac but getting the digital format inside the Mac to an analog format like VHS is much more difficult. It would be easier (and cheaper) to burn DVDs or Video CDs.
www.formac.com (http://www.formac.com) has the DVD studio that will allow for analog output I believe. I've also seen the Hollywood DV bridge advertised in MacMall for $259 US.
Whatever you use, it won't be an inexpensive solution.

I've seen a USB video out device for around £100 (UK) but can't comment on the quality. The other option is if your DV camcorder (assuming that's how you got the source footae in) has a record facility you can plug it into the firewire port on the Mac, then record the movie to the camera, then dub it to VHS from the camera.

I bought the DV-Bridge. I'm having trouble getting the Mac to recognize it... I think it has something to do with the Extensions Manager which I can't find in OS-X. I know I can boot to 9 but then I need some hand-holding to change the ext mgr.

OSX doesn't use extensions, which would be why you can't find extensions manager :)

Got it figured out... Firstly, it seems to like it better if I boot from OS9.
Secondly, there is a switch on the back that tells it what to do (A to DV) (DV to A) (Pass through). It will sometimes automatically sense which function you are after but I have discovered that timing (starting the VHS tape first) is important.
