uploading ftp userid??

when i try to upload a file to my server it says

Permission Denied.

i'm using a Perl script a friend wrote for me to upload my files, i can download and look through my files perfectly, it's just on uploading them i get

Failed: Permission Denied.

he said i needed to edit my user settings...

the perl script i used: chmod 777 filename.pl and chmod 755 filename.pl and it didn't work.. so i needed to edit something (we weren't sure what it was) that allowed users to upload. or edit something that set user settings. i have redhat 9 with apache 2.0 i believe, so i don't have a linuxconf. any advice?

you do not have to do a cdmod change when you upload. This can wait until it is uploaded so that is not the problem.

Does your hosting service allow perl scripts? What software are you using to upload it?

It is good good thing that you posted back that you fixed the problem, most of the time when something is fixed. They just leave this place and we never know how it worked, or if we made matters worse. Great job though on fixing your own problem. Great Job indead!

Learned something new today, as many perl scripts I have uploaded, I had never changed the chmod before uploading. Just wondering, what was the script for?

Thanks for posting the solution.

I would be very cautious of putting a script that can do that on a live server. There is no form of secure password protection.

md5 encryption if through php as opposed to clientside javascript only encrypts php -> MySQL attempts. A brute force attack could still penetrate the script.
