Where can i get Linux from?

As from the title, where can i get a copy of linux and which is the version i need to get?

Depends what you want from it.

I've used Knoppix.
It can be run totally from the CD, so if you just want to have a look at it (linux) then it can be useful.

So can i install it on a laptop, even though i've got xp pro on it?

Never installed it, but yes, aswell as being able to run it totally from CD you can install it.

I'm not a linux user and there are probably better distributions available if you want to install and dual boot with XP.

I'm sure the linux users will point you in the right direction

You can get about any version of linux to duel boot with windows. The dest plac e that I know of that will let you see what distros are out there and let you look at some scheenshots. Distrowatch.com is a great place to start. For a newbie, I would recommend Mandrake. It is raising on popularity and it is VERY friendly to me. I played around with linux for about three years now, just with this distro. I felt very cozy with it in about a week. But just my recomendation Distrowatch.com is a good place to get started

Or try debian, that's newbie-friendly too. Tho you might want to check out some info on howto install a linux distro first.
Or what a distro is.
