mouse cursor jumping all over screen

I have a win98 system, and the mouse cursor seems to have a life of it's own.
It jumps all over the display. Sometime I can move it to select items then it Freaks out again by jumping around. Anyone see this before on Win98 second edition?

Hi jntod1 welcome to CTH.

First thing I would do is clean the mouse.

Second thing reinstall the mouse drivers.

Third check for a virus, you probably should do this one first.

Fourth try another mouse, yours could be bad.
