Did you know that your text messaging on your cell phone is being saved by the phone company? I did not until I read this (http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/ptech/06/07/text.messaging.records.ap/index.html) article.

I voted no it isn't. It's a way of policng the system. Your ordinary telephone keeps record of who you dial as does email and what websites you visits. Helps to kepp the nasty people at bay.

If you don't want people reading your text messaging....don't send any :) that's the same with anything. I examine and save all my daughter's cell phone and text messaging records, just so I know what she's up to....plus she knows I'm watching and that helps her.....beware :D

There is a big difference between keeping the log of who you dial and who you send email to and keeping the actual text message.

It really don't matter to me one way or the other since I don't have text messaging. I just thought it was something interesting and informative to post.

Hey Renegade I'm not having a go at you. Your post was interesting, I just replied with what I voted and the true reasons why. No difference exists in what you say because it is saved anyway by the providers of the service.

Lufbra

You use the internet email and at some time must use the telephone.

I use both, but not for text messaging, which I assumed you was meaning through a telephone. :)

Numbers you dial, fine. Text messaging, no! Why should they keep that?! :(

Drug trafficking, Paedofiles etc.

Well, yes, true. It's funny, I'm usually more on the side of going with this sort of thing (Patriot Act, for instance), than most people, but for some reason, this one just rubbed me the same way!

If that is the reason to keep text messaging, then they need to keep the content of email, keep the content of phone conversations, keep the content of letters and packages.

I am sorry if it seems to be picking on you, I am not, just trying to figure out where you are coming from.

It does invade piracy, but I don't really think they'd know what you're talking about unless they're your friends or friends of your friends ( :dizzy: ) that you message. And I don't think they read the messages. Maybe just keep it as a record in case the cops need it or something (like in the movies!!)...

With all the info' given out, surely it's your choice whether you want to use such things. :)

Dan

I know you are not having a go at me.

Sending things through the normal post is not a quick fix for those people I have described. They need the immediate response and that is where I'm coming from.

Email is stored, telephone numbers dialed are store, telephone conversations can be easily accessed, even your pm in any website is easily found together with what you said.

Look at my profile, I've done it.
