Hey I'm trying to stop certain programs (such as spyware and adware) from starting up on startup. I have these programs on my computer because I got a virus on my computer a few months ago. Although I try to get rid of them, it doesn't work. I am planning to reformat my harddrive and reinstall windows but I need a quick fix for all the popups I get so I want to at least stop these programs from running, but I can't get to the System Configuration Utility .. usually found through running "msconfig", but when I try this it just says "cannot find the file 'msconfig'" which is pissing me off. Can anyone tell me how to get to the utility without the run prompt msconfig?

Welcome :)

What OS?
MSCONFIG is not supplied with NT or 2000.

Use this instead

Or you can get MSCONFIG here (http://www.perfectdrivers.com/howto/msconfig.html) for Windows 2000.

Or you can run spyware removal utilities to get rid of the spyware, or go into add/remove programs and remove the obvious ones or do both :)
